1. I think the "Open Art Room" helped me grow as an artist because it allowed me to use things that I've never been able to use before. It gave the students the opportunity to use materials that they aren't familiar or comfortable with. There is also the risk of students using only the materials they're comfortable with. Some students might think that a certain material they've never used before might be too difficult and may not try it. I think, however, that most students in this class did try to use a different material.
2. A piece of artwork that reflects me as an artist is my Relief project. I made a clay tile of one of my favorite bands Of Mice and Men. I have a personal connection to it because music tends to help me through a lot of things. Of Mice and Men is one of the bands that has done this. They are special to me and I think this artwork reflects who I am better than any other piece.
3. My most successful project was the Unconventional Materials. I thought of this idea because I had to incorporate trash bags into my art. One of the suggested topics was disguise so I thought of glasses. I started to think of how I could use trash bags to make a pair of glasses and then I realized that it would be pretty cool if I could make the lens out of trash bags. I then chose to use cardboard to make the frames of the glasses and hot glued them together. I cut out the shape of the lens out of garbage bags and stretched them across the part of the glasses you look through and glued it. After I was completely done, I painted them.
4. One piece of artwork that I used previous skills to create it was the lidded vessel. It was then my second time using plaster so I used some of the skills I gained in making my Wearable Art piece. I also gained even more skills in making the lidded vessel by having to use molds and make my own molds as well. I was able to incorporate my skills using plaster by being able to quickly apply the plaster and in a smoother finish. Also, I gained the skill of painting on plaster which is difficult to do because it has so many holes and isn't always a smooth finish so you have to apply kind of a lot of paint to get the entire piece painted.
